If I copy and Paste this formula and cell into a new cell it will work, and result in 100 but it's not working in my current sheet. The format is set to General. Invoice

Excel Facts

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
I manually put in the data in I838

What the formula in H838 says is:

Look at I838, take the 1st number to the left of "," and multiply it by 2. Then take the number to the right of the "," and multiply it by 2. Add the sum of those numbers.

Hmmm...

Try splitting the formula into the 2 indivdual parts to see which one might be causing the problem.

Here's another version of your formula that's a couple of keystokes shorter.

=LEFT(I838,FIND(",",I838)-1)*2+MID(I838,FIND(",",I838)+1,15)*2

An even better idea...

If you're using Excel 2002 or later use the formula auditing tool, evaluate formula, to step through the formula and see what's happening.

In Excel 2007 and later...

Select the formula cell
Goto the Formulas Tab>Formula Auditing>Evaluate Formula

In Excel 2002, 2003...

Select the formula cell
Goto the menu Tools>Formula Auditing>Evaluate Formula
