can anyone tell me what the formular is for :

if i type a certain word in one cell ( A1 = help ), a word appears in another cell ( A2 = thankyou )

Try:

=IF(A1="help","Thank You","")

If there a lot of words to go in A1/A2 you may be better off constructing a table with a look up as below:

thank you for that, wondered if you could mail me an excel spreadsheet with the v-lookup, as i would like to type in a few words in one cell, to make different words appear in other cell.
ie

type in A1 - help A2 = thankyou
type in A1 - please A2 = help
type in A1 - thank A2 = me

would appreciate your help, if you could mail me direct that would me ok
