From Column A counting specified info in Column B

hi..
I have been trying to use count ifs and Sums.. but im getting it wrong.. I am trying to look at two columns on the same worksheet and count the number of times a specified word comes up in column A and how many times a specified word comes up in column (B)..eg I want one cell to show that new york = 1 (winter) & another cell shows new york = 1 (george)
Thanks so much if anyone can help x

column A
new york
new york
france
London
france

column B
Winter
George
George
Winter
Spring

you could do this with a pivot table.
Add headings.
create your pivot table.
Use The new your column as row lable 1, Winter column, row lable 2.
Count of 2 in Values.

Hi dermis_72 thanks for the idea re pivot table (and super quick reply)..I will try that today and see if I can pull in data from that into my sheet (there are quite a few variables so my pivot table will be rather large!)

If anyone else can think of a quicker way to get the same output, more formal based would be appreciated.
