Can anyone give any tips on creating a front end for Access. I would prefer if the user does not open the database directly an icon which points to a form or something on them lines not sure explaining mysef very well.

if anyone can help would be great

You can achieve the same effect that you described by using an "Autoexec" macro. If you do a search on this forum for "Autoexec" (without the quotes) you should get some pointers for creating a form and opening that form in a macro titled "Autoexec". If you get stuck just post a reply with what you have tried so far.

Why not create 2 databases?

One with the actual data and one with forms/reports etc.

You would link the tables in the database containing the data to the one with the forms.

Access(2000) actually has a wizard to do this Tools>Database Utilities>Database Splitter.
