Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying

ASAP utilities has this built in function - you could find the freeware add in on the internet?

Here's the code:

Code:
Function ColorIndex(rCell As Range,Optional FontOrInterior As Integer = 0) As Integer
If FontOrInterior Then
    ColorIndex = rCell.Interior.ColorIndex
Else
    ColorIndex = rCell.Font.ColorIndex
End If
End Function

Use:

=ColorIndex(A1)

for the font colorindex. Or:

=ColorIndex(A1,1)

for the fill colorindex.
