Gantt Chart Troubles

Hi All,

I was hoping someone can help me with a Gantt chart I've made. I want the dates at the top to be from the dates the project is starting to finishing. However, they don't match my start date columns and then when I plot the remaining duration date it doesn't correlate to the project dates.

This is harder to explain and easier to see.

I've spent hours trying to work out what I am doing wrong?!

If I'm able to send it to someone on here somehow to have a look that would be really good.

I hope someone can help me and many thanks in advance!

Kind Regards,

Nathan

Are you using a stacked bar chart? If not then it won't really work.

Then you have two data sets, your 'start date' and your 'duration' as your sources. Both of these sources plotted on the same axis, both against the same source (like your activity title for example).

Hi PostTIT,

Yeah i am using a stacked bar chart.

I do have them as two data sets, start date and remaining duration, plotted on the same axis, against the same source.

Not sure why it's not working as I want it to/should.

It's probably something really basic, I just can't see it!

A few pitfalls I fell into when I made my Gantt chart (whether they help I don't know):

- Your two data sets shouldn't include the titles of their respective columns and should just be the dates/values alone.
- 'Start Date' should be your first data source.
- 'Duration' should be the second - if it is the other way around ('Duration' as the first set) it wont work at all
- The axis on the chart should be in date format (right click, format axis, menu on the right appears and change it in there)
- Click on the 'Select Data' button in the chart design tab, 'Start Date' and 'Duration' should appear on the left table, the individual items from the 'Activity' list should appear on the right.

Hi,

I've checked all these and it's all as it should be.

Thanks for coming back to me though. So frustrating being beaten by a chart!!

That's alright, just trying to help.

How have you set up your sheet? Table of data on the left and Gantt on the right? And what does your table look like?

When you reply click 'Go advanced' and you can ctrl C and ctrl V your table into the reply box, or you can send a picture/screenshot of your worksheet. And then we can go from there.
