get today's date from a server or website?

Hi all,

I'm planning to create a trial version of an add-in which won't be usable after a certain date.

To defeat attempts to change the system date and time, I'm thinking of getting the date and time directly from a website or any server. Has anyone tried that?

will fail if the network is down for any reason. how about hiding the numeric date number somewhere obscure in the sheets as hidden white text on a hidden sheet. Time would be irrelevant

For my case, the macro will just refuse to run if the network is down. Anyway I have googled a few solutions already. With some modifications they work perfectly.
Basically they find a online website that hosts the date/time, import the data and then process them to get the date/time.
