getting the right percentage

what i have is a spreadsheet to workout time and percentages, i've nearly got it but when i type the total hours in a cell, say 1hr 35 mins and the job takes 1hr 35mins it doesn't come out at 100%, if you think you can help i can email it to you for you to have a look at.

The reason you are getting inconsistencies is that one hour 35 minutes (1:35) is not the same as 1.35 hours.

Check out the help file for 'How excel stores dates and times'. Dates are stored as whole numbers - 1 is 01 jan 1900, 2 is 02 Jan 1900 etc; times are held as decimal fractions - 0.5 - 12 hours etc.

So 1.35 is 8:24 am on 01 Jan, 1900.

which is the largest set of info on excel dates / times I've come across.
