I am trying to globally define the workbook that houses the code as a variable and keep getting an Invalid Outside Procedure Compile Error. Here is my code:
Code:
Public SOVComp As Workbook
Set SOVComp = ActiveWorkbook

Any thoughts?

Do you hate GETPIVOTDATA?
Prevent GETPIVOTDATA. Select inside a PivotTable. In the Analyze tab of the ribbon, open the dropown next to Options and turn it off
Being invalid outside of a procedure one solution would be to put it inside a procedure:
Code:
Public SOVComp As Workbook
Sub Foo()
    Set SOVComp = ActiveWorkbook
End Sub

If in the workbook that houses the code you can always use the ThisWorkbook property which is an inbuilt reference to the same.

Code:
Sub Bar()
    Debug.Print ThisWorkbook.Name
End Sub
