Google-style autocomplete in Excel 2002

Excel 2002's data validation and autocomplete aren't helping my users enough. The data validation list is sometimes 3000 elements long and autocomplete only suggests one option. Additionally, data validation won't allow entry of items not on the list, so I guess I need something more like data "suggested" validation.

I am trying to implement autocomplete in this Excel 2002 spreadsheet similar to what Google's search page does, where as you type, a drop down list of filtered elements is presented. You can scroll or key down and select an element or type something not in that list.

The combo box doesn't allow selecting from a filtered drop down list and doesn't integrate as well as I would like with the spreadsheet (I need VBA code to "activate" the combo box.)

Any ideas? I am willing to purchase a third-party control if that will save me time.

Easy bullets in Excel
If you have a numeric keypad, press Alt+7 on numeric keypad to type a bullet in Excel.
That's exactly the example that I based my original solution on, but like I said it wasn't "good enough". Thanks, though.
