does anyone know how to graph a dot on top of a bar graph?

i have the days of the week listed vertically down the axis on the left. then i graphed (as a bar graph) calories along the right (horizontally) to show how many calories i ate daily. In addition i want to graph a dot on top of the bar graph to indicate what the ideal amount of calories would be. it doesnt necessarily have to be a dot, it can be a tick mark but i want to show something. any idea how?

How to create a cell-sized chart?
Tiny charts, called Sparklines, were added to Excel 2010. Look for Sparklines on the Insert tab.
Hi Helen

It is possible but it requires some work and it would help if you are comfortable customising charts.

So my question is: are you open to another solution, in this case the chart rotated 90 degrees?

If instead of a horizontal bar chart you use a vertical column chart then it's direct, you just add a second series as a line chart and erase the lines leaving only the markers.

If you really must have the horizontal bar then it's a bit more complex. One way is to add a second series with type scatter and configure the chart. In this case, when you define the (X,Y) pairs for the second series don't forget that the the 2 series will have orthogonal chart types (switch the X,Y).

If you need the chart as horizontal and have problems customising it post back and if no one else answers I will post more details tomorrow.

Thanks for the explanation. but i need to keep it horizontal? i figured out how to plots dots and delete the lines, but the lines keep plotting vertically instead of horizontally. any idea how i can get around that?
