Hello all!

First post so I'll try to be as thorough as I can be.

I am trying to create a spreadsheet with which I can enter weights of palleted product into groups between 11,500 and 12,500 pounds. My average weight per pallet is roughly 2200 pounds, but it varies based on my supplier. I store them in groups of between 11,500 and 12,500 pounds so I can have trucks pre-set to load without having to think about it too hard. I have a sheet that I use to get me to where I need to be, but I have to do this for every single lot. I want to be able to enter up to 50 weight values of pallets and have my sheet group them in the most logical way to make as many trucks as possible with what I have. Is there a way to accomplish this in Excel? I know I can use =sum to add up the weights as a whole, but I want to try and have the sheet just be able to tell me to put pallet 1, 5, 8, 10, and 14 together to make a workable truckload.

Is this something I can do in a spreadsheet? Or am I better off finding a programmer to buoild me something more specific to my needs?

I really hope this makes sense, but I will answer any questions as best I can with the limited knowledge I have.

Thank you all in advance!

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
Hello,

For a start you could use sbTeamGolf as shown here:
Your palette numbers would be the player names, the weights would be the handicaps.
The weight sum of all palettes should be close enough to a multiple of 12,000. For example 7 * 12,000 = 84,000. Then create 7 teams.
If you need a sample file google for sbteamgolf or for sbgenerateteams.

But please note: this approach is sort of "abusing" a fair random team generation. If it is heading into the direction you are after, some programmer should be able to amend it to your individual needs.

Hope this helps (a bit),
Bernd
