I have Cells of Data
Name Date
1 | Jerry | |
2 | billy | | _________
3 | | | |____2_____| This cell is called "Key"
4 | | |
5 | | |
6 | | |

The colom with the numbers is called "Reff" the "Name" at the top is "Name" and the colome with the "Date" at the top is "Date"

Now I have some other cells with fomulas in them "=Lookup(Key,reff, name)

What is suposed to do is serch the "reff" Colum find "2" (as shown in Cell "Key" and retunr the value in the "Name Column'' in this Case "Billy" and when you change the number in "Key" cell it would continue to work the same way.

Now I have used this funtion 100s of times in the past and for soome reason this time it does not work.

any help on this would be helpful.

Thanks

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
Whell It's Very wierd

When the number "1" is in the "Key" Cell it works but when you put 2 in there instead of finding "2" and then returning the right value. It does not do anything

... I don't know the Vlookup Funtion and the glossery is in "Greek" could you explain it to me. for make one that does this funtion and I'll retrofit it.

Thanks

The numbers, do they equal or go even with the row numbers somehow? Like:

1__1
2__2
3__3

or

1__3
2__4
3__5

because you can just return the value associated with the rownumber.

take a look at this:
Map3
DEFG
4a
5b
6c
7d7g
8e
9f
10g

what I mean is, do the numbers 'count' ? are they starting with 1, 2, 3 .. until the end of the list? or, can the number be produced in a random order? (ie. 6, 2, 4, 1)
