Hello Folks!!!

Can anyone give me advice on how to write a formula that adds the content of a cell with two digits and shows the results in another cell?
Example:

Also, is there a formula that will do text to columns (two values and display in two different and seperate cells).

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
Sort by date Sort by votes
Here you go....
Part_1
With your 2-digit, sample data in A1:C3
this regular formula sums the two digits of each cell
E1: =SUM(--MID(A1,{1,2},1))

Copy that formula across and down through G3

Part_2
With your sample 2-digit data in A5:A7
this regular formula returns the 1st digit
C5: =MID($A5,1,1)
and
this regular formula returns the 2nd digit
D5: =MID($A5,2,1)

Copy both formulas down

Is that something you can work with?

Thank you for the formulas, i really appreciate it!! Ron, for some reason, when i imput the formulas, they're not working for me. The formulas are just stretching and showing up in the cell. I don't know what i'm doing wrong.....

Make sure the cells that hold the formulas are formatted as General.

Change the format to general then, with the cell still selected, hit function key F2 then hit Enter.

Thank you for the speedy reply. I checked the formatting and it was formatted as General, but i implimented the formatting directions just to make sure. For some reason, i still get the same undesired results.

The formulas I posted begin with the equal sign.
Example:
E1: =SUM(--MID(A1,{1,2},1))

That formula goes in cell E1
"E1: " isn't part of the formula

Check this setting...

In Excel 2003 and earlier versions:

Goto the menu Tools>Options>View tab>Uncheck Formulas>OK

In Excel 2007 and later:

Goto the Formulas tab>Formula Auditing>Show Formulas
