Hello everyone,

I'm a new user of all things computer, so be patient please.

Working with excel200 I have a worksheet that produces a cutting list:

COL A: Item,Jambs,Heads,Cills,Mullions,Rails etc.
COL B: Thickness(mm),57,57,57,69,45 etc.
COL C: Width,79,79,79,79,57 etc.
COL D: Req.,2,1,1,1,2 etc.
COL E: mm,1250,1000,1000,1250,980 etc.

This list is the result of just one style and size of window, similar lists will be produced for different windows all part of the same batch.

Can I get excel to look at all these list and produce a batch cutting list that reads as follows? :

69x79mm:
5@1550
3@1200
7@1050
2@775
etc.

69x 69mm:
4@1200
etc.

57x69mm:
18@1200
etc.

45x57mm
etc.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I'm sure it will save me hours.

Thanks...

Chump

Excel Facts

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
I am sure this can be done...but I don't understand for sure what your request to return is. Try and clear me up here...

I'm with Ken. I'm not getting a clear picture of what you're trying to do.
(But I am confident it can be done, one way or the other.)

Wow, how quick was that?

Thanks Ken/Ace for your quick response, I thought I may well be explaing things wrong, so lets see if I can clear things up (may well be long winded)

I have a workbook where each worksheet represents a different style of window. Each window has a specific number of components, but the section of each component can alter from job to job. The worksheet is set so all I have to do is insert width, hight and number of frames req. to get a cutting list.(This has taken me weeks so far ) So for a batch of say 20 windows (different styles and sizes), I may get upto 20 small cutting lists. Too many small list will help create "working errors" so i need 1 large list.

So my database is:

A1:D7 ... each column has the data from my first post.

hope that gives yyou a clue what I'm doing,

Thanks

I think I got it..
Each sheet contains the info you provided for each window (20 different sheets 1 for each size), and you want to enter on a separate sheet the size and quanity for each window to fulfill the job and it return a combined list with all similar cuts grouped into one. Is this what you want?

Given your data only

COL A: Item,Jambs,Heads,Cills,Mullions,Rails etc.
COL B: Thickness(mm),57,57,57,69,45 etc.
COL C: Width,79,79,79,79,57 etc.
COL D: Req.,2,1,1,1,2 etc.
COL E: mm,1250,1000,1000,1250,980 etc.

what is the desired output?

Hi oxfordchump:

Let us have a look at the following where I have created a DATA Table from source data all in one worksheet ...
y040306h1.xls
ABCDEFGHIJK
1ItemThickness(mm)WidthReqmmDATATABLEsource
2Jambs577921250TRUEThickxWidthxmmCountcriteria
3Heads5779198057x79x12504DataTable
4Cills57791100457x79x9802
5Mullions69791125057x79x1002
6Rails455721005769x79x12502
7Jambs5779212507945x57x1004
8Heads577919801250
9Cills5779110057x79x1250
10Mullions697911250
11Rails45572100
12
Sheet2

Is this the sort of thing you are looking for?. I do realize that I have all the source data in one worksheet in this case -- your data may be spread over various sheets.

HI jon, Hi yogi.
Yes that's just about what I reequire, though after looking at the sample you did, I'm a little in the dark.

I'm off to read all about DSUM, and TRUE worksheet functions. Macros look to be a long distant dream.

The spreadsheet that I have taken weeks to polish has just been outshone, probably in minutes. You and your fancy funtions!!!

Thanks for the help,

Chump
