I am hoping someone can help me, I am sure it is a formatting problem. My son is on the swim team, and I am working on a spreadsheet showing best times, qualification times etc. The format of the numbers I am attempting to enter is minutes, seconds, tenths and hundredths of seconds, notated like this:

51.99 (seconds, hundredths of seconds)

1:51.59 (one minute, 51.59 seconds)

every time I entered the second number in a cell, it automatically rounded it to 1:51.6...I played with the formatting and made things even worse, to where the first number (51.99) was being changed into something completely different. Is there a way I can override this function completely and just type in what I want and have it stay that way? HELP!!!

Why can't spreadsheets drive cars? They crash too often!
If you are not performing any calculations, you can simply enter these numbers as text '51.99 or '1:51.59

Custom format your cell as "mm:ss.00" to show the .59.
You can format the first cell the same, but you must enter 00:51.99
