HELP Needed with IF equation

I have 12 columns that contain H, M, L, M, M, M, H, L, M, M, L, L. I want to create an equation that calcualtes the numerical average from these values, The actual weighted values of each letter is H=.7, M=.2 and L=.1. How should my equation look.

Data in the range A1:L1.

Try this array formula**:

=AVERAGE(IF(A1:L1={"H";"M";"L"},{0.7;0.2;0.1}))

** array formulas need to be entered using the key
combination of CTRL,SHIFT,ENTER (not just ENTER).
Hold down both the CTRL key and the SHIFT key
then hit ENTER.
