Hi,

I am using excel 2007.

I have below two tables. I need help on formula which will match a perticular employee and his department from table 1 with table 2. If the match if found, then formula should add the values from table 2 (department from table 1 and table 2 should be same, because one employee might work in more than one department) and multiply if with the value from table 1.

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
A simple way is to have a helper column next to table 1, then it would work like this:

Excel Workbook
ABCDEFG
1Table 1Table 2
2Emp IDDepartmentValueEmp IDDepartmentValue
31A5751A10
42B6181A5
53A4323A8
64B3274B9
75C242B3
81B305C2
9
10A107
11B45
12C4
Sheet7

If you don't want a helper column it gets a lot more complicated.

Have you considered writing a function in VBA for this?

How about:

Excel Workbook
ABCDEFG
1Table 1Table 2
2Emp IDDepartmentValueEmp IDDepartmentValue
31A51A10
42B61A5
53A43A8
64B34B9
75C22B3
81B35C2
9
10A107
11B45
12C4
Sheet7

Code:
Function getsubsettotal(table1 As Range, table2 As Range, deptsubset As String)

    Dim empid As Variant, dept As Variant

    Application.Volatile

    runningtot = 0
    For Each c In table1.Columns(1).Cells
        empid = c.Value
        dept = c.Offset(0, 1).Value
        singletot = 0
        If dept = deptsubset Then
            For Each r In table2.Rows
                If r.Cells(1).Value = empid And r.Cells(2).Value = dept Then
                    singletot = singletot + r.Cells(3).Value
                End If
            Next
            singletot = singletot * c.Offset(0, 2).Value
        End If
        runningtot = runningtot + singletot
    Next
    getsubsettotal = runningtot
End Function
