I have an Excel file stored on a shared drive which several users use throughout the day. My fellow users are supposed to open this file as [read-only], but it's a lot easier for them to just double-click the file and open it.

Occasionally they will open the file [read-write] and, for instance, leave for lunch - leaving me unable to work with the file. I tried installing a MACRO, but these fellow users don't enable MACROS. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can set something up to help prevent myself from suffering at the hands of these unhelpful co-workers?

Thanks,
Zac

Most of the time you can right-click the file, go to properties, and check the "Read-Only" box.
