This should be an easy question but I just can figure it out. I looked on the other Conditional Formatting threads and I don't get it. Sorry.

Here's what I'm trying to do:
excel.jpg

All the white cells would be selected, this needs to affect all of them.
I need the cells to turn green when any number over zero is entered, turn red when 'U' is entered and turn purple when 'D' is entered.

I have Excel 2000 if that changes anything...

Can someone please help?

Excel Facts

When they said...
When they said you are going to "Excel at life", they meant you "will be doing Excel your whole life".
You should use Formula Is instead of Cell Value... in the format boxes type the following:

=A1="U"
=A1="D"
=A1>0

Make sure you have only 1 cell select, change A1 to the selected cell.

Set the conditions accordingly. Make sure you use the correct absolute references correctly so you can copy and paste the formats and have them stick.

Select all the cells this applies to and do what you did, except, reverse conditions 1 and 3. In Excel, for sorting purposes, U and D are also considered >0, so the formatting as you have it doesn't get past the first condition.

This is sort of off subject but kind of the same.

Are you able to sum total a column or range of cells based on the color value with a function?

thanks,

Mark

Yes you can. Do a search for "Summing by color" I also suggest you start a new thread if that does not turn up what you need.
