Is there way In excel I can type a name in cell A1 and have it find the employee ID number from a List and post it in Cell B1.

Example:
Type there name into A1. Then B1 will look at the list in Q50:Q75 then find the employee Number in R50:R75 and post it into cell B1
Type there name into A2. Then B2 will look at the list in Q50:Q75 then find the employee Number in R50:R75 and post it into cell B2

Try placing the following formula in cell B1 and drag-copying it down as needed:

=VLOOKUP(A1,$Q$50:$R$75,2,FALSE)

Yep.

There are several ways to do this, your basic VLOOKUP should do it, something like this

=vlookup(A1,$Q$50:$R$75,2,false)

Put this in B1, then copy it down column B as far as required.

Try this:

Code:
=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(A1,$Q$50:$R$75,2,0)),"Not Found",VLOOKUP(A1,$Q$50:$R$75,2,0))

You can change the "Not Found" portion to be whatever you want it to say if it can't find it.

Put in B1 and copy down as necessary.
