Can one suggest a formula for the following;
Help with sales figures between a date or cell range

I have a sales spreadsheet with
Col A = Date. Col B = Invoice number. Col C = Name. Col D = Total Sale.
Col E = Vat Content. Col F = Net Sale.
I would like to have 2 cells where I enter either a Date or Cell Ref which would then lookup & add the the values in that range.

IE: Total Sales between 01/01/05 - 31/01/05 or D11 to D50 (these cell ranges would be changed by the user)

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
=SUMIF($A$2:$A$400,">="&Date1,$D$2:$D$400)-SUMIF($A$2:$A$400,">"&Date2,$D$2:$D$400)

where Date1 and Date2 are cells which house date criteria like 01/01/05 and 31/01/05 with Date1 <= Date2.

If the user specifies the D-range to sum by giving cell addresses...

=SUM(D11:D50)
