Firstly hello to all! (and what a great site!)
Is there anybody out there who does spreadsheets for "fun" or for a small fee?
I have managed to learn some simple basics about excel - conditional formatting of cells so that they change to a certain colour when info is entered is about the limit of my capabilities!!
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
I've created a colour page for keeping track of soccer scores (attached a sample page named premier), which shows the team name followed by consecutive results of games played and the number of the team played against (an asterisk indicates an away game), then below are the results divided into home and away, together with half time results and total goals scored.
<o:p></o:p>
The easiest way for me to update this (currently!) is to print out the sheets, write down the half time and full time scores, hand colour in the results (green = win / yellow = loss / pink = draw) and then every couple of weeks update the scores on the computer and then print out new sheets! Which can be very time consuming – especially if I am trying to update about 12 different leagues! (total teams for each league vary from 10 to 24)
<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
A couple of problems: -
On the original template I created (attached) one of the "conditions" I wanted to set was if a=b then background colour was pink (for a draw score 0-0/1-1/2-2 etc) but then all the blank data cells came out pink, which was no good when I needed to print out the sheets to update them, (and a waste of ink!) so I have to click and colour each cell manually once I have updated the scores. Can anyone suggest a fix for this?
<o:p></o:p>
Another one (although no big deal) is where I have set a cell to give a total for when I add scores, this shows and prints “0” until I add the data. Would there be a way of “hiding” this until an actual score is added? Bearing in mind that some results would total 0!
<o:p></o:p>
To make this less time consuming (on a weekly basis at least!) I was looking at adding a cross chart table (copy attached) where I could type in the half time and full time results which would update the “colour page”, but am having no joy with that, as can be seen, Where I have set a few sample dates of games to be played, to be updated with final scores, and then linked these to individual cells in the “colour page” the linked cells are obviously showing the original dates in the cross chart! Could anyone suggest a “solution”?
(If there was a solution to the above, another problem I could encounter using the cross chart and linking individual cells in the colour page, would be if a game is played out of sequence, say due to a postponement. I would also need to show on the colour page which team was played against and indicate if it was a home or away game)
<o:p></o:p>
I’ve looked around the web and found plenty of spread sheets geared up to producing league tables by using a “fixtures list” (sample attached) so maybe I need to do something similar instead of using the idea of a cross chart to produce my colour page, but I’m not sure if that would be the best method or indeed how to go about doing that!
<o:p></o:p>
So here’s hoping that a “ wizard” of excel find’s my “problems” in creating the template, challenging and interesting enough to spare the time in finding solution’s or to advise me the best way to achieve what I am after.
Many thanks and hope the post was not tooooo long!

(just realised I cannot (or do not know how too!) add the files mentioned - I can email copies if anyone is interested enough to help!)
