Should PivotTables that are created with PowerPivot using only Linked Tables from the workbook be considered OLAP PivotTables?
Some reasons to say "Yes":
Some reasons to say "Yes":
- They allow the use of the VBA PivotField.VisibleItemsList Property list, which is documented as only being applicable to OLAP PivotTables. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff839948(v=office.15).aspx
- They allow the use of OLAP Tools > Convert to Formulas resulting in (OLAP)Cube formulas.
- There's no Data Warehouse nor anything "Online" about a PivotTable that has only linked tables within the same workbook as its data source.
