Can someone help me with a formula or code? I have 20 envelopes containing one of the following numbers (1000,750,500,250,100) totaling 9,500. I need to know how many envelopes contain each number. The only thing that I do know is there is only 1 envelope containg 1000. can anyone help me with the others?

Excel Facts

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
This is a maths / statistical question, not an excel question.

Can you do the maths to work out the result ? If yes, post it here and there's bound to be an excel solution.

Here's one solution, found by trial and error, but it might not be unique

1000, 1
750, 6
500, 6
250, 2
100, 5
