Highlight Cell

could any please advise how I can highlight a cell red if the below appear in the cell when typed

CAR201 CAR202 CAR203 CAR204 CAR205

would be much appreciated

sorry, but cant get it to work, it appears red when blank only

Sounds like you applied it incorrectly.
You may want to try removing all Conditional Formatting rules from your sheet and try again.

sorry im lost, cant get it to work

is there simple way - - - just want the cell to go red if more than one number is typed into the cell

ive got about 40 numbers that need to be detected

More than one number? That's not what you asked for earlier in the thread. When Joe clarified with you, you said that exactly one of those five values would be visible in the cell. Please provide us with some sample representative data to work with.

Just try the below formula
=match(A1,CAR201,CAR202,CAR203,CAR204,CAR205,0)
the cell reference you need to change as per requirement.
