I'm trying to determine when drag and drop of data to a graphics field to produce a graph of the data was first (a) used in Excel, (b) used anywhere, and/or (c) written about. I believe it appeared in Excel 97 so it would seem that it was known prior to that timeframe. (I'm particularly curious if this feature was implemented or described in 1996 or earlier.) If anyone has any documentation they are willing to share or to point me to that would be great.

How can you automate Excel?
Press Alt+F11 from Windows Excel to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
I believe it was earlier than Excel 97, but I have no proof. Maybe someone out there has some museum pieces running old versions of Excel and can try it out.

My old Que book on Excel 5, copyright 1993, indicates that you could drag and drop data onto a chart in that release of Excel. I only use drag and drop about 1% of the time I add data to a chart, becasue Paste Special gives me so much better control over the process.
