I have a conditional rule which identifies duplicate records in column A.

If the condition is true, I want to display a value "duplicate" in column B.

I cannot find any info on how to display a random value based on a conditional rule.

Press Alt+F11 from Windows Excel to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
Welcome to the board.

Try this in B1 and copy down:

=IF(COUNTIF(A:A,A1)>1,"duplicate","")
