How do I automatically populate (e.g. formula) title field in SmartArt - Hierarchy - Name and Title Organization Chart?

Hello,

I am looking to automatically populate the title field in the SmartArt>Hierarchy>Name and Title Organization Chart.
Is there a way to automatically do this from a list versus hand typing in each white box?

Thanks for any solutions you can provide.

Regards,

Jim

Excel Facts

Whats the difference between CONCAT and CONCATENATE?
The newer CONCAT function can reference a range of cells. =CONCATENATE(A1,A2,A3,A4,A5) becomes =CONCAT(A1:A5)
Hi,
Click on the Smart Art box after inserting it.
In the Ribbon there will be two new tabs appear, select the one called “Design”
Click on “Text Pane”. Here you can edit your text

Cheers
Paul.

As far as I know, it cannot be done with formula

Correction,
You can enter names vai a formula into the boxes but you have to convert the Smart Art to "Shapes" first.
On the "Smart Art Tools" tab select "Design" and on the right hand side select "Convert to Shapes"

When you have them as shapes, you can click on one of the shape boxes and while it is selected, type in the formula bar =A1 and whatever you type in cell A1 will be put into the shape.

Hope this helps
Paul.

Hi Taul,

Thanks for the reply. I was referring to the white (Title) box and not the blue box. Is there any way of automatically populating these white boxes versus having to manually click inside each white box to enter text? That would be very time consuming with a big tree. Thanks Taul.

Regards,

Jim

The only way I know is to "convert to Shape", basically as mentioned in my original reply.
Then you can click on the white box once and enter =a1 into the formula bar, this links cell A1 to the white box, from then on just edit cell A1

Then you convert to shape, you effectively have lost the ability to move the shapes around with enter & tab, so maybe you could save a master copy with the Smart Art and have a copy converted to shapes with linked cells.

cheers
Paul.

Hi Paul,

I realized this after my last reply, via rereading your second post. Yes, I have it working using the approach you recommended.
Also, I realize that it makes good sense to have a copy of the tree in the native SmartArt format, for future use.

Thanks again for the great help today. I appreciate it.

Regards,

Jim
