Hi All,

We have recently run a competition on our website which requires the user to vote for one of 17 ****tails.

Votes have come in thick and fast (1200 at the last count)

The trouble is our mechanic does not count the votes, only showing a list of which ****tail has been voted for e.g.:

****tail A
****tail C
****tail B
****tail B
****tail A
****tail A

Is there a way of taking this table into excell and having it count how many A's, B's and C's there are?

I tried looking at =SUMPRODUCT(C1:C1500=G2) where G2 is the name of Cokctail A.

Can anyone help this poor novice Excel user?!

Read M is for (Data) Monkey book by Ken Puls and Miguel Escobar. It is the complete guide to Power Query.
use apivot table.
****tail = row field
count of ****ttail = data field

there is a wizard to help if you don't know about pivot tables
(under 'data' menu)
