How do I enter dates in Excel 2013 as mm/dd/yyyy and have them enter as dates not labels?

Now I don't want to know how to change the format, because I know how to do that. I would like to enter the date as 10/13/2016 and when I press enter it enters it as a date format, not as a label, as it is doing now. I have not been able to find any information on this in Youtube or Google.
Please help,
Rob

Copy PDF to Excel
Select data in PDF. Paste to Microsoft Word. Copy from Word and paste to Excel.
are you set as US date format, as that should work as you want. What is the underlying cell format, maybe ensure the column has it set to date before first entry

How do you set it to Canadian date format? I tried setting the format for the entire column to date before first entry. Did not work?

Sounds like it is your O/S settings being set as mm/dd/yyyy that need changing.
