I have a hidden macro-enabled spreadsheet that i use with the menu ribbon to run the macros in it.
Most of the time when I close a file I am working with, when I try to use the macros to process another file, I discover that the hidden macro-enabled file has also closed itself.
How can I stop it from closing until I exit excel?

Save Often
If you start asking yourself if now is a good time to save your Excel workbook, the answer is Yes
I have that too
but I find that the shortcuts I put on the ribbon will just reopen the hidden file if it was closed

How did you get the shortcuts to do that? In my case the shortcuts return a runtime error and that when I realize the hidden file closed itself!

So that file is supposed to open automatically when excel is started.
Is it possible that this file was slowing down excel from opening so it was put on the disabled items list?

Try checking this post
I had this in the past and the above mentioned post got me out of the issue.
