How does excel calculate?

Purely out of curiosity, I wonder how calculations are performed in a workbook? Does excel start calculating from Sheet1, then to Sheet2, Sheet3... Does it start from cell A1, then A2, B2? Or does it calculate all ranges simultaneously or in some hierachy?

Well, it is probably important to understand, to make VBA triggers on events like Worksheet_Calculate to work correctly?

Is this question of any value?
