How does this formula work?

This formula works, but I don't understand it.

=LOOKUP(REPT("z",255),B1:R1)

Can someone explain how it works?

Rept("z",255) will produce text of

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....on and on 255 characters long...

it's just an outrageous text string that couldn't possibly exist in the range B1:R1..

so lookup("zzzz...",B1:R1)
Lookup Searches for Closest match if there is no exact match.. Therefore looks for CLOSEST match not EXACT match..

so it will always return the last text string in the range (furthest Right, or Furthest Down, depending on the range in the formula)...
