How much memory

I am working on some large datasets in access and excel. major changes and extracs take a long time to process. my pc has 512 megs of ram and can take up to 4 gigs of ram. I am not interested in trying to find a better way to organize the data or in using a new tool at this time.

My manager has ok for a ram upgrade, the question is how much memory should I be putting into my machine? I heard the new Windows is huge and that O12 will allow for even more rows and collumns which I am assuming will make excel file bigger.

Any thoughts?

Excel Facts

Move date out one month or year
Use =EDATE(A2,1) for one month later. Use EDATE(A2,12) for one year later.

Not trying to be a smart alec: If you can, take the max (or at the very least, as much as you can. Your autosignature says it all) - it won't hurt.

I forgot about my autosignature which is a very true statement.

I wonder what the average RAM the power users have in their own PC.

I've got 512MB at home and 768MB at work.

Before the hecklers pour in - I'm a semi power user.
