How must i do this ... search for and than find ...

I want to search for (example ) Jansen and than for Piet.
The result must be 12

Can this be done in a formula?
 

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type
Like this:

=INDEX(A1:D4,MATCH("Piet",A1:A4,0),MATCH("Jansen",A1:D1,0))

"Piet" and "Jansen" can be cell references.

Try this. Formula in H3: =INDEX(A1:D4,MATCH(H2,A1:A4,0),MATCH(H1,A1:D1,0))
