Lets say I have 12 cells in a row (C2:L2 )that I will be putting numbers into. I would like to average the numbers in the cells as I put the numbers in. As I put the numbers in the cells the formula averages the total numbers entered by 12 cells and not by only the number of cells that have numbers in them. I think I'm using the wrong formula.I'm trying to develop a budget program.Thank you for any help you may be able to give me.

Excel Facts

Select all contiguous cells
Pressing Ctrl+* (asterisk) will select the "current region" - all contiguous cells in all directions.
I was wondering if I can tag onto this post because I had the same question.
I don't understand why if I apply the =Average( ) formula to a whole group of cells it works perfectly for some and gives me the wrong number for others?
