i have a cell with negative value, how to format it to positive no.? Do i have to use a formula?

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
you can do it with a formula.

=ABS(a1)

where a1 is the cell you wish to make positive.

This depends on what you want.

If you need to keep the value negative for other calculations, but want it not to display as a negative, use custom formatting

###;###;

If you want to change the value, enter a -1 in a cell. Copy, and then paste over your negative values, using Paste Special>Multiply

You could custom format it to ;0; it's a bit shorter, and it will still retain it's negative value without showing the - sign.
