How to create a special 2D contour plot?

Hi,

Who has any clue to create the following type of 2D contour chart? I mean one of them. Please note that the upper left and lower right corner are left out or cut away, i.e., if it is a matrix, some cells are empty. Any clue is appreciated!!! :confused:
