Hello

I have a conditional formatting which checks the value of the top cell of a column and accordingly formats the whole column.

The code is:
FORMULA: =$A$1=1
APPLIED TO: $A:$A

The problem is that I want this to work for each of the other columns but the columns already have other static and conditional formatting applied to it so I cannot really copy/paste the formatting.

Is there a way to do that?

Thanks!

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
Select the columns to be affected and add a CF rule using the formula
Excel Formula:
=A$1=1

Thanks but what do you mean 'the columns to be affected'? Are these the columns that the rule must be checked or the columns where the formatting will be applied?

Because I want to apply the formatting to a particular column but I want the rule to be checked for many columns.

I mean, I have columns where the top cell is sequential days. I want to highlight the whole column Green when the top cell is TODAY().

Mmm thanks but it does not work.

The data is:
28/09/2021
29/09/2021
30/09/2021
01/10/2021
02/10/2021
1
1
1
1
1
2
2
2
2
2

Today 30/09, the third column should be red. Tomorrow 01/10, the third column should not have any formatting and the fourth column should be red. And so one, as days passes.

Is that possible?

I put the condition =A$1=TODAY() applied to columns A:E. I did not use the ROUNDDOWN, is it necessary?

Post your example using the XL2BB tool like I did (you can download it over here ... ) so we're able to determine where you exactly went wrong.

In my example I used NOW() to get the date, which includes the current time, so the ROUNDDOWN was necessary to eliminate the time element, and as can be seen, it works for me.

It would be great to use the XL2BB but unfortunately I cannot install anything on this laptop due to policies. Got the conditional formatting to work though thanks!
