How to find most recent date?

In Sheet 1, I have a spreadsheet that has columns for the following:

My rows range thru 9237.

In Sheet 2, I have the following column headers:

Columns D thru I are summed up from the information in Sheet 1 based on the Customer #.

In Column L on Sheet 1 is the date of the last order that matches that up with the product code for that customer.


My question is, how do I right a formula in column J in Sheet 2 to find the most recent date for that particular customer #.?

Do you mean most recent purchase date? You could use the MAX function.

=MAX(Range of dates for customer, separated by commas)

If your list is sorted ascending by ship date,

In column M on sheet 1, I put this formula in cell M2 and copy the formula down.

=IF(COUNTIF($A:A,A2)=COUNTIF($A$2:A2,A2),A2,0)

This identifies the last occurance of that client

On sheet 2, in cell L2, I put this formula
=INDEX(Sheet1!L2:L11,MATCH(Sheet2!B3,Sheet1!M2:M11,0),1)

which pulls the last date.

You will need to lock your range (in my model I used rows 2 to 11)

Only quickly tested, but try on sheet2 J2 and dragged down: =MAX((Sheet1!A2:A9237=A2)*(Sheet1!L1:L9237))
