I have a text file with a column that contains newlines. However, when I copy it into a spreadsheet, the newlines become rows. I want the newlines to act like Alt-Enter. Is there a sequence of characters that I can use in my text file to act as Alt-Enter when copying it to the spreadsheet?

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
Hi rwallenstein.

If I understand correctly Your Problem, do this:

1.

Supposing that You are coping text to column B, make it first wider (start with 70,0)

2. Then paste text to B3.

3. Choose from Menu: Format -> Cells -> select from dialog You got page Alignment. Find WRAP TEXT and mark it.

Now Your text will be wrapped. You can test with changing column width and sometimes also row height. If You are coping more text for example to B4, You can use Format Painter to get same format from B3 to B4.

Hope this was You needed.

Hi,

That is not the problem.

A line of text in the text file which is separated by tabs looks like:

field1 <tab> field2 <tab> blah1 blah2 blah3

I want the blahs to be vertical in the cell:

A B C
1 field1 field2 blah1
blah2
blah3

What sequence of characters can I put between the blahs to accomplish this?

Thanks again.

Richard

PS I sent a previous reply but I wasn't
