Hello to all,

I'm using MS Excel 2010, Windows 7 32 bits.

If I copy a number of of length from 1 to 15 digits and paste it in a cell, having the cell format = "Number", it pastes it correctly
but If I paste a number with length greater than 15 digits, it pastes the first 15 digits fine, but the rest it fills with zeros.

Why this happens?
Is there a way to set a format to paste a number greater than 15 digits in a cell to avoid this issue?

Thanks for any help.

Excel can only handle 15 digits of a number. You need to format the destination cell as Text.

Hello Peter,

I've formatted the cell as text but still appear numbers like 4.1893E+17.

I'm trying to copy a table from a email that has numbers with length of 20 digits and If I put a "'" at the beginning of the number, it fixes the issue since treats it as text, but having to add ' manually is time consuming :(

Thanks again for any help.

After formatting the destination range as text, when given the option after pasting, select Paste Values.

Hello shg,

Thanks for the help. I understand now. When I do right click, Excel shows 2 options to paste.
1- Keep Source Formatting
2- Match Destination Formatting

And if I don't change the destination cells format to text before paste, it pastes it as "General".

Then first is needed to format as text the destination range and then select Match Destination Formatting!

Thank you again.

Best regards
