in Column B I have a list of text strings. in Column c I have a list of lengths that go to column B.

beneath I have all the sums and lengths.

How to I put in formula If certain word pops up in column B. Sum all above that row in Column C

example: how can I make it sum all above jars.

col B col C
pipe 1 30.31
pipe 2 32.42
jars 40.91

Welcome madfc101,

In the example above the sum would be 62.73. Based on that I created the following for you.

Excel 2010
ABCDE
1col Bcol Cpipe 230.31
2pipe 130.31
3pipe 232.42
4jars40.91
5jars 229
6wire 131
7wire 25
Sheet1
Cell Formulas
RangeFormula
E1=SUM(INDIRECT((ADDRESS(MATCH(D1,$A$2:$A$100,0),2)&":$B$2")))
