I have a cell with a background pattern. Now i want to remove the pattern, and revert to "as if the cell had no pattern ever applied". In the dialog, there appears to be a pattern that is "no pattern" in the upper left of the background choices. But i think it applies a "white" pattern or a "clear" pattern which is apparently not "absolutely the same" as "no pattern ever". For instance, after applying that pattern in the upper left of the dialog, the cell gridlines no longer show up.

Do you know how to remove a previously applied background pattern so that the cell reverts to exactly the same behavior as to if no pattern had ever been applied?

Thank you.

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
Select "No Color" if even if it looks as though it's already selected.

Solution
Yes that did it, thank you. What a subtle, odd little glitch. Very ambiguous in the User Interface.
