I need to test for a valid global name in a workbook, whether activated or not, before hyperlinking to it. Any ideas?

If you have a numeric keypad, press Alt+7 on numeric keypad to type a bullet in Excel.
What do you mean by "whether activated or not" ? and a global name, you refer to those things that you create under Insert | Names, Define ?

Yes, I mean those defined names. The file to be hyperlinked to may or may not be opened in the current Excel session.
