how to transfer data from flat file to excel

You should be able to open the file in Excel by choosing Files of Type "Text Files". If your file is not one of thes types choose "All Files".

Excel will show the Text Import Wizard to guide you through the process.

What sort of file is it? Can you open it in Notepad?
