I can seem to get UNIQUE, SORT and FILTER all working together.

Here's some example data:

123JohnDogs
444MaryCats
56SueBirds

This is a simplified example table, and an important note is that my actual table will contain various blank rows in between the rows with data.

I want to sort the table by Column B, and filter the table for data in Column A where the value must be <>"", and then apply Unique, as there there may be multiple entries of the same number in Column A.

How can this be achieved. Everything I try results in a SPILL error?

Excel Facts

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple

Try:

Book2
ABCDEFG
1123MaryDogs444JohnCats
2444JohnCats123MaryDogs
356SueBirds56SueBirds
4123MaryDogs
5
Sheet15
Cell Formulas
RangeFormula
E1:G3E1=SORT(UNIQUE(FILTER(A1:C10,A1:A10<>"")),2)
Dynamic array formulas.

SPILL means the resultant array overlaps some cells that have data in them. Try clearing everything out to the bottom and right and maybe your formula will work.

Thanks Eric about pointing out the over lapping data... I am very new to these functions, and now realize I had columns of data in the way of where the filter range was trying to display the data.
