I am not an expert regarding the security on access 2003. I can log to 2 access2003 database ( our computers are in network). Each time I want to open a specific database, I join the right workgroup.
I've created my own database (just in order to "master" access) on my desktop, but I don't know the name and the location of the default workgroup associated to that database. So , I can access the other database but when I try to open my own database I am rejected.

I tried to find it by searching *.mdw on the (c:), but the search returned nothing.

Do you know how to recover or find the right name?

Thank you

Excel Facts

What is the last column in Excel?
Excel columns run from A to Z, AA to AZ, AAA to XFD. The last column is XFD.
Do the following to find out the location and filename of the active Workgroup Information file:
  1. Open the Database.
  2. Display the VBA Editing Window (ALT+F11).
  3. Press CTRL+G to display the Debugging Window (Immediate Window).
  4. Type the following Command and press Enter Key to display the workgroup information file location.
Code:
? DbEngine.SystemDB

? Currentdb.Name - will display the active database's pathname.

You need to Run the Workgroup Administration Program WrkgAdm.exe to Join a different workgroup information file.

You will find more details on Microsoft Access Security at this link: Microsoft Access Security.

Hi Apr Pillai, Thanks for your reply

First, I opened one of the database (A) I have access too, and followed all the steps you described above. That returned me the workgroup information file location.

Secondly I opened my personal database on my desktop and typed the loggin and the password I have been given for the workgroup of database (A)è I managed to log into my personal Database (When I go through the workgroup administration I can visualize all the persons and their rights).

The Microsoft Access Security link you gave me, is very interesting, but I must admit that database securing is complicated on ACCESS.

As I am not an Administrator on my Laptop, I am going to do some researches on how to find run the wrkgadm.exe and what’s its purpose exactly?
