When I try to hyperlink one of my spreadsheets to a .hex file that is viewed using WINLV I get a fatal error with the following details - "WINLV caused an invalid page fault in mudule MSVCRT.DLL at 0167:78013541" Does anyone know the reason behind this?

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
this really isn't an excel question but I can see why you posted it here.

I recommend you go to Microsoft site and do a search for that dll name.

If I am deciphering the name correctly it appears to have something to do with screen (display) paging.

I am curious, though, how you are hyperlinking to a non-MSOffice application and actually expect it to work.

Excel has no native way to launch the application you want. Even though Windows association may associate the file with an application, the hyperilink does access those associations (at least I don't think it does--I could be wrong.)
